Allen Cohen Cancels
Sad news today that Allen Cohen won't be able to come to Sacramento for a benefit reading on his behalf scheduled for Nov 21 (Fri) at The Book Collector. I was looking forward to this event. And while it wasn't going to generate that same kind of money as the San Francisco Benefit on Allen's behalf earlier this month (which included members of The Grateful Dead), I had hoped that we could have showed our apprecation for Allen with a little event here in Sac. Our best to Mr. Cohen as he recovers from the liver transplant and to those who had planned to come next friday, my profound apologies.

Lisick at Luna's

Next Thursday poet/author Beth Lisick will be the featured reader at Luna's Thursday Reading Series. In honor of the event, PFA is publishing her prose piece Picking Up as PFA #316. Lisick is featured in this Week's Sacramento News & Review in a story by Becca Costello.
Hutcheson, Levine, Savage Read on Second Saturday

Three fine poets -- Julia Levine, Heather Hutcheson and Rachel Savage -- read last Saturday (11/8) as part of the Poems-For-All Second Saturday Series. A three-poet-lineup was a first for the series and worked very well. Despite a torrential downpour 30 minutes before the event started, plenty of people showed up for the standing room only reading, including Sacramento's Poet Laureate Jose Montoya.

For every Second Saturday reading we publish Poems-For-All micro-chaps for each featured reader. Julia Levine's poems The Vanishing Point and Mercy were published as PFAs #314 and 315. Rachel Savage's Savage Haiku was published as PFA #258. Heather has been a featured reader before in the series and her poem Crane , PFA #122, was reprinted with a new cover design.
Sloth

There was a recent story about how there is so much dead wood out there on the internet; all these blogs and web pages that people start with great enthusiasm and then abandon. I remember my early enthusiasm for this whole website thing and couldn't wait to set up sacfreepress.com as an online alternative newspaper. I even went to L.A. in 2000 to "cover" the shadow convention and protests surrounding the Democratic Convention (because to GOP one was too far away) and got press credentials. I took rolls and rolls of fim, recorded hours of audio and filled up several notebooks with quotes, observations and story ideas. It was an awesome week of experiences. I never put it on the website. Perhaps its that realization that it's a lot of work to get it all up here. Ahhhh, sloth.

To prove the point: It's been almost exactly one year since I last posted to this blog.
